European Mobility Week in Chemnitz attracts visitors with some special features this year
Federal "SolarMobil Deutschland" competition in the city for the first time - Sign language interpreters on city tours - Youth exchange programme on tour through the city
From 16 to 22 September 2012, the campaign week is promoting sustainable mobility under the motto "Heading in the right direction". The city, clubs and associations are offering walks and a city tour by bike, among other things. On Friday, 21 September, from 10 a.m., 22 stands will provide information on various mobility topics and invite visitors to take part in numerous activities on the forecourt of the Moritzhof and the TIETZ building. Over the course of the week, there will be two free presentations on the urban mobility of tomorrow: one on electric cars and the other on hybrid technology for railway vehicles, also in connection with the Chemnitz model - the combination of railway and tram networks as a sustainable model for the future.
Three special features await visitors to the European Mobility Week this year:
During the European Mobility Week, barrier-free city tours for people with limited mobility and visually impaired people will once again be offered. Thanks to funding from the State Directorate of Saxony, these will be accompanied by sign language interpreters, as will the lecture "Einfach aufladen? Electric cars and the urban mobility of tomorrow" with Prof. Dr Andreas Knie and the entire programme on Friday. The wheelchair curling and the performance by amateur songwriter Fanny Bui, who will sing songs she has written herself together with Anja Voigt on topics such as blindness and accessibility, are sure to be particularly impressive. The event flyer was also printed in Braille.
The highlight will be the national "SolarMobil Deutschland" competition on the Moritzhof forecourt on Friday, 21 September, where the young winners of the regional competitions will compete for prizes in two different categories for solar-powered model vehicles. The race will be accompanied by hands-on activities and a bicycle auction organised by the City of Chemnitz lost property office. In the age simulation suit "GERT" of the Geriatrienetzwerk_C of the Klinikum Chemnitz gGmbH the limited mobility in old age can be experienced. The ceremonial arrival of the Lauf-KulTour 2012, which this year supports the UNICEF campaign "Schools for Africa", particularly in Mali, is expected at around 5.00 pm.
The third special feature is the youth exchange "MobiE - Mobility in Europe" under the leadership of the solaris Förderzentrum für Jugend und Umwelt gGmbH Sachsen. Funds from the EU's YOUTH IN ACTION programme enable 30 disadvantaged young people from Latvia, Italy, Spain, Poland and the Czech Republic to come together in Chemnitz. With a geo-caching tour through the city centre, a city rally and "SolarMobil Deutschland", the young people get to know the city together with German participants. The topic of mobility takes centre stage as a unifying element. A critical examination of current forms of mobility promotes awareness of road safety.
