European Mobility Week 2019
Activities from 16 to 22 September in Chemnitz I MOBI Day this time on Henriettenstraße
The European Mobility Week will take place from next Monday, 16 September, to 22 September. The city of Chemnitz is also taking part again.
Edgars are the names of the little black figures who are walking, cycling, travelling by bus or train and are always sustainably mobile. They want to invite people in the city to do the same. In Chemnitz this year, there is a real Edgar made of plush who will be taking part in the activities during European Mobility Week and will also be available for a selfie. Day-care centres and schools will be invited to take part in specific activities from 16 to 22 September 2019. These range from discovery tours and English-language mobility tours through Chemnitz city centre to cycle tours, themed tours of the Chemnitz Industrial Museum or the Opera House, short film programmes at the Metropol cinema, performances by the Urania puppet theatre - Wissen macht Theater and a rickshaw shuttle service between the train station and the central bus stop.
On 15 September, the Allgemeine Deutscher Fahrrad-Club (ADFC) Chemnitz e. V. will be taking citizens on a tour through the Chemnitz Valley to Markersdorf. On Monday, 16 September, there will be 200 tickets to be won at the Chemnitzer Verkehrs-AG service vehicle stand at Neumarkt. Anyone can try their luck here. During European Mobility Week, the Technical University is also organising the 4th International MERGE Technology Conference IMTC 2019 (in English) on the TU Campus. The VHS Chemnitz, in cooperation with the VCD Chemnitz, will be hosting seminars for tenants, landlords and owners on 24 September on the topic of "Living leads mobility".
As a highlight, the MOBI-DAY on 20 September will transform Henriettenstraße in front of the Dr.Wilhelm-André-Gymnasium from 7.30 am to 4 pm into a colourful world of discovery, information, experimentation and design. The people of Chemnitz are invited to the mobile bicycle cinema, testing various simulators (Verkehrswacht Chemnitz e. V.), test rides on the city's electric or cargo bikes (vehicle fleet and environmental office), wheelchair basketball with the Niners RBB team, rollator safety training, a discussion forum with the traffic planning department or a city tour of the Kaßberg with Ms Grit Linke. There are also various non-cash prizes to be won, such as a CVAG monthly ticket, tickets for the Chemnitz Gewölbegänge, vouchers for the Museum für sächsische Fahrzeuge Chemnitz e. V., saddlebags from Teil-auto, the board game Monopoly Chemnitz and much more. The Parking Day will also take place in front of the Dr.-Wilhelm-André-Gymnasium to repurpose a car park.
Photo opportunity: All pupils will form the word "MOBI-TAG" on Henriettenstraße at 9am. Representatives of the press are cordially invited.
At the lost property bike auction, also on 20 September, lost bikes can once again be purchased for more active and sustainable mobility.

Participation in the action week since 2003
The EU Office of the City of Chemnitz has been coordinating the Action Week with a large number of partners since 2003 in order to encourage citizens to make more use of sustainable mobility, i.e. greater use of public transport, cycling and walking. To this end, the concept of mobility is always broadly defined so that a framework can be created that allows access to a wide variety of approaches.
