European Day of Parks on 24 May

Photo opportunity: Handover of a green seating area on 24 May, 1 pm, Botanical Garden, Leipziger Straße 147

On Tuesday, 24 May at 1 p.m., Mayor of Chemnitz Michael Stötzer will hand over a new green seating area in the "heath landscape" of the Chemnitz Botanical Garden to the public on the occasion of the European Day of Parks. The seating area is a unique piece created by the employees of the Botanical Garden and the Friends' Association.

Representatives of the media are invited to attend.

24 May is the European Day of Parks - of national parks, biosphere reserves and nature parks. It was launched in 1999 by the European umbrella organisation of parks, the EUROPARC Federation, and has been held annually ever since. In 2022, the motto is "We are nature - rethinking, restoring, reconnecting".

In addition to many parks, Chemnitz's urban greenery also includes around 1,500 hectares of near-natural municipal forest. The Crimmitschau Forest is one of the most valuable municipal forest biotopes. It is also home to the botanical garden, which consists of the horticultural section on Leipziger Straße and around ten hectares of neighbouring biotopes.

A visit to the botanical garden is particularly worthwhile at the moment, as the heather is in full bloom.
