European cities on a study visit to Chemnitz
EU office receives guests on 18 May, 9.30 a.m. in the town hall
On Wednesday 18 May at 9.30 a.m., the EU Office of the City of Chemnitz will welcome guests from Portugal, Latvia and Romania, who are meeting in Chemnitz for a study visit as part of the EXPLORE+ project from 18 to 20 May.
Representatives of the media are invited to attend.
The project partners come from educational, cultural and administrative institutions in the cities of Faro in Portugal, Cēsis in Latvia and Timișoara in Romania. All three cities are future European Capitals of Culture or candidates for this title. Together with Chemnitz, they are cooperating as partners in the "EXPLORE+ Creative explorations of curiosity for innovative transdisciplinary, STEAM and social learning" project.
Funded by the EU education programme ERASMUS+, the project supports collaborations between school and cultural educators to develop new interdisciplinary, multimedia and creative learning methods and participatory approaches. These are to be practically applied in the areas of STEM education (STEM = science, technology, engineering and mathematics), among others, in order to give European pupils better access to and understanding of these important educational disciplines.
In October 2021, solaris Förderzentrum für Jugend und Umwelt gGmbH Sachsen, as the project manager, welcomed the European partner institutions to the first joint face-to-face meeting in Chemnitz to plan the practical implementation of the collaboration. A group from Chemnitz then travelled to Faro in March 2022 to visit several local education and innovation projects. The next meeting took place in April in Cēsis, where the focus was on space in education.
From 18 to 20 May, solaris FZU will present local innovations in the fields of education and technology to the guests. They will also have the opportunity to get to know Chemnitz better as a city.
The long-term plan is for Chemnitz, as European Capital of Culture 2025, to establish lasting and constructive relationships with Faro, Cēsis and Timișoara beyond the EXPLORE+ project. For example, Chemnitz and Faro, the regional capital of the Portuguese Algarve, recently established a cooperation under the motto "Bringing local roofs to life" for the productive and sustainable use of the surfaces of building roofs.
