Election notifications are sent out - New location for postal voting centre
Voting notifications for the European and municipal elections on 9 June 2024 will be sent to all eligible voters by Sunday, 19 May 2024 at the latest.
Each person entitled to vote will also receive an application for a polling card with the election notification. This can be used if you would like to cast your vote by post before election day. Alternatively, you can also use the online application for a polling card on the Internet at www.chemnitz.de/briefwahl or apply by email(briefwahl(at)stadt-chemnitz.de).
Once the application has been submitted, the person entitled to vote will then receive a ballot paper and the postal voting documents sent to their home or to an address specified by them. This gives them the opportunity to exercise their right to vote and return the complete postal ballot letter with all associated documents free of charge by Deutsche Post AG to the address printed on it. It is important that the election letter is then returned to the City of Chemnitz postal voting office by 6 p.m. on 9 June 2024 at the latest. It is also possible to post election letters in the deadline letterbox.
For the elections taking place on 9 June 2024, eligible voters will receive two ballot papers, one for the European elections and one (joint) ballot paper for all local elections (city council elections, local council elections) for which they have the right to vote.
In addition to being able to vote by post, a polling card also entitles the voter to go to a different polling station to vote on 9 June 2024. This could play a role, for example, if the polling station assigned to an eligible voter is not barrier-free, but the eligible voter would like to go to a barrier-free polling station. He or she can then do this with a polling card. Eligible voters can obtain information on accessible polling stations in Chemnitz via the telephone number printed on the polling card. In addition, an overview of accessible polling stations is provided at www.chemnitz.de/wahlen.
Only the different validity of the polling cards must be taken into account. Polling cards for the European elections are valid in every polling station in the city of Chemnitz. Polling cards that are only valid for the city council election are only valid in the constituency for which they were issued (this is printed on the polling card). And polling cards for city council and local council elections are only valid in the polling stations within the respective local authority area.
Another way to vote before election day is to vote immediately at the BVZ I - Moritzhof, Bahnhofstraße 53, in the postal voting centre (please note, new location). This will be open from Tuesday 21 May during the following opening hours: Mondays and Wednesdays from 8.30 am to 4 pm, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8.30 am to 6 pm, Fridays from 8.30 am to 12 pm. The exception is Friday, 7 June, when it is open from 8.30 am to 6 pm. The opening hours can also be found on the polling card.
However, it is essential that you bring your polling card application (back of the polling card) and your identity card or passport with you. Voters will receive their polling card and postal voting documents here and can also vote immediately on site.
