Europe Week paints stars throughout the city

Europe celebrates on 9 May - it is Europe Day and it reminds us that we live in peace and unity in Europe. It was on this day that the then French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman gave his famous "Europe speech" in Paris. Today, this day is considered the birthday of the EU. A second important key date is 5 May, which commemorates the founding of the Council of Europe in London in 1949. Europe Week is organised around this date every year.
In Chemnitz this year, a number of events are once again inviting people to think about and discuss Europe and the European Union. The #C:EUROPE21 campaign organised by Buntmacher*innen Chemnitz, CWE and the city's EU office aims to make Europe visible. To this end, terms will be spray-painted in various parts of the city throughout the week for passers-by to discover. The aim is to encourage people to think about Europe and inspire ideas for the Capital of Culture 2025 process. Anyone who discovers stars can share a photo of them on Instagram using the hashtag #C:EUROPE21.
As part of the EU project InduCCI, the Chemnitz - Made in Sachsen exhibition can be seen at Brückenstraße 10 until 2 May - unfortunately only through the shop window or online at the moment. KREATIVES SACHSEN and MARXMAID are enabling creative people and artists from Saxony to exhibit their original Saxon products here. A virtual discussion on 1 May will focus on: "Industrial culture - what to do with the potential?".
Together with the Karl-Schmidt-Rottluff-Gymnasium, the Prodan project will address questions of human interaction in the "Wert - Werk - Statt". The current situation is intended to raise awareness of fundamental values. Through initially limited contact with the pupils, a creative, artistic and cultural exchange is to take place, which will hopefully be continued in a contactful manner. Finally, the impressions gained will be artistically realised.
The solaris Förderzentrum für Jugend und Umwelt gGmbH Sachsen invites you to a virtual tour through Europe on 9 May. Online via Padlet "EUROPE TO GO: You decide where to go. European Solidarity Corps for Europe Day 2021!" will focus on perspectives for cooperation in Europe in times of the pandemic. The padlet will be available on the website www.solaris-fzu.de on the day of action .
The Initiative Europa an der TU Chemnitz e. V. is enriching Europe Week with an online escape room on 5 May. This will be followed by an online pub quiz on the topic of Europe on 9 May.
