Europe Week from 2 to 10 May with a varied programme
Experience Europe through play - City of Chemnitz invites you to the Neighbours' Festival at the German SPIELEmuseum
Europe Week opens in Chemnitz next Saturday, 2 May at 2 p.m. in the Stadthallenpark. The Kulturwerkstatt association invites all visitors to the intercultural festival "Welcome to Chemnitz". There will be face painting, drumming workshops and graffiti spraying areas in the park in the city centre on this day. DJs will provide musical entertainment.
The Europe Week will conclude on Sunday, 10 May with the Neighbours' Festival. This festival, organised by the City of Chemnitz and the Deutsches SPIELEmuseum association, will take place under the motto "Culture, games, way of life - what connects Europe" from 3 pm to 6 pm at the Deutsches SPIELEmuseum. There will be a varied stage programme with dance and music, games for the whole family and a selection of international dishes. Exhibitions such as "What really connects Europe: THE GAMES!", "La piazza dell'amacizia - The Square of Friendship" and "ASYLUM" await visitors. Admission to the German SPIELEmuseum is free on this day.
During Europe Week, the European Commission, the European Parliament and the national and regional European governments invite EU citizens to reflect on the significance, development and future challenges of the European Union. In Germany, this week of events is traditionally organised by the federal states. The federal states often receive support from the municipalities, which are involved in the organisation at local level or support local players in their events. "For us, it is a matter of course to provide organisational or financial support to citizens, initiatives and associations who want to contribute to Europe Week. It is important that Europe is thematised and lived in Chemnitz," says Pia Sachs, coordinator of the EU Office.
Further programme of the Europe Week:
"Welcome to Chemnitz", is the title of the exhibition opening on Tuesday, 05 May at 5 pm in the town hall. The exhibition documents the community project of the same name sponsored by the Robert Bosch Foundation. It tells the stories of international immigrants in Chemnitz and their arrival in a new society.
The Axensprung theatre group approaches the death, misery and despair of the First World War. In Weltenbrand, a scenic collage of text, music, sound and visual elements, they combine expressionist poetry with everyday situations and soldiers' letters, among other things. The performance will take place on Wednesday, 6 May at 8 pm in the refectory of Chemnitz University of Technology. Admission is free.
"Welcome to German" is the title of the film screening in the Odradek reading café. The documentary shows the resentment that can arise when asylum seekers move into the neighbourhood and examines current asylum policy.
On Friday, 8 May at 3.30 pm, the Sächsischer Kinder- und Jugendfilmdienst e. V. will be showing the Czech puppet film "Hurvinek and the Magic Flute" (2004, ages 5 and up), which tells the story of an adventurous visit to a museum. Ticket reservations are requested.
