Europe Week 2022 in the spirit of solidarity
Events from 30 April to 9 May - EU consultation hour for the first time
This year's Europe Week starts on Saturday, 30 April. Various educational and cultural events in the spirit of European understanding and solidarity will be offered in Chemnitz until 9 May.
For the first time, the EU Office of the City of Chemnitz is offering a citizens' consultation hour on European issues on Monday, 9 May from 3 to 5 pm. The appointment can be attended as a personal consultation in the town hall or as an online video conference. Anyone interested can register by Friday 6 May by emailing international(at)stadt-chemnitz.de or calling 0371 4881502.
Over the past few months, people in Europe have learnt that peace on this continent cannot be taken for granted, even in the 21st century. At the same time, the importance of joint action between European states has also become apparent. In light of these impressions, various educational and cultural events are organised during the annual Europe Week in the spirit of European understanding and solidarity.
On Tuesday, 3 May, the Lila Villa Women's Centre will host the Europe Festival of Women's Initiatives. On Saturday, 7 May, the spring festival "Asia meets Europe" will take place under the blossoming cherry trees in Lutherstraße. Organised by the Chemnitz-Mitte citizens' platform, local associations will be offering various entertaining and playful hands-on activities as well as a colourful cultural programme and culinary delights from Asia and Europe.
In conjunction with Europe Week, the solaris Förderzentrum für Jugend und Umwelt gGmbH at the Karl-Schmidt-Rottluff Gymnasium will also be hosting an information event entitled "Europe to go" on 13 May on the topic of international exchange through the European Solidarity Corps. Participants will report on their experiences and answer questions from interested pupils.
The Initiative Europa an der TU Chemnitz e. V. will once again be represented, enriching the programme with an information stand on European topics, a panel discussion on "Europe and war - What does responsibility mean in times of war?" and a reading of "The European Dream" (A. Assmann) in front of the canteen.
