Europe Week 2019 in Chemnitz from 4 to 12 May
During this year's nationwide Europe Week from 4 to 12 May, there will once again be a variety of events to attend in the city of Chemnitz. It will kick off with a parade from the town hall to the main railway station. This will take place on the occasion of the European Day of People with Disabilities. From there, there will be a joint journey by steam train to Dresden to visit the Parade of Diversity and the Tolerade.
The topic "Europe & Youth: European civil society is young" will be discussed on Monday, 6 May, at the Weltecho. People committed to Europe will come together for a panel discussion.
One day later, the "Tampere DOK" exhibition will open at the adult education centre, where four photographers will show their pictures on the subject of urban change in the Finnish twin city of Tampere.
On Thursday 9 May, the annually celebrated Europe Day, a particularly varied programme can be experienced. The highlight will be the joint singing of the EUROPA-HYMNE. This will take place at 4 pm on the Neumarkt in front of the town hall. The EUROPEAN NEIGHBOURHOOD FESTIVAL, which is focussing on the Czech Republic this year, will also begin at 4 pm in the TIETZ with an afternoon of reading. From authors and filmmakers to musical and culinary entertainment, the focus will be on our Czech neighbours. The exhibition "European traces of Chemnitz personalities" will also be presented.
The Europe Day will be rounded off by events organised by the Initiative Europastudien e.V., which will provide information on the upcoming European elections in the Chemnitz University of Technology canteen. At the adventure education centre in Küchwald, the solaris Förderzentrum für Jugend und Umwelt gGmbH will explain how European voluntary services work under the motto "Europe to GO - helping and learning across Europe".
10 May begins with a European exchange of experiences in the form of a World Café on the topics of volunteering, cultural work and Chemnitz's Capital of Culture application, diversity and migration as well as civil society at the TIETZ. In the afternoon, the workshop "Citizen participation in the EU - just a utopia?" can also be attended there. The EUROPEAN NEIGHBOURSHIP FESTIVAL in the Rosenhof will also offer an extensive programme for young and old with music and dance on stage as well as sport, games and fun at the stands of various Chemnitz institutions from 2 pm. Visitors will be spoilt with culinary delights from the associations of the twin cities.
The Europe Week will conclude with the international theatre festival "NONSTOP EUROPA!". From 11 to 19 May, theatre productions can be seen at the Schauspielhaus Chemnitz that examine current questions about the future of Europe from different perspectives.
