Europe Week 2017 in Chemnitz from 5 to 14 May
Europe Days for youth and cultural work and European Neighbourhood Festival
The city of Chemnitz is hosting a variety of events to mark the nationwide Europe Week from 5 to 14 May. To kick things off, there will be a film screening on 4 May at 8.30 pm in the Odradek reading café, followed by a fundraiser for an organisation that rescues boat refugees in the Mediterranean.
"Welcome to Chemnitz" is the motto of a colourful, multicultural children's and family afternoon on 6 May from 2 pm in the Stadthallenpark.
Throughout the week, the Kinderfilmhaus will be showing European films. The Technical University and the Initiative Europastudien e.V. are also taking part with lectures and workshops in a series entitled "Understanding and Identifying Europe".
The Europe Days for Youth and Cultural Work at SMAC and the Europe to GO_ Helping and Learning across Europe event at the Multigenerational House will provide information and experience on opportunities for exchange and cooperation in Europe.
At the end of Europe Week in Chemnitz, the European Neighbourhood Festival will take place on 12 Mayfrom 2 pm at the Rosenhof. Under the motto "Language connects", associations will be presenting a programme for the whole family. Guests from Poland and the Czech Republic are also invited to enrich the programme with readings and an exhibition. In the evening, at 6 p.m., there will be a reading in the city library, where two personalities from the twin city will be introduced by a German scholar from Łódź.
This year, Europe Week, which takes place simultaneously in all German states, is centred around the anniversary "60 Years of the Treaties of Rome - What's next for Europe and European integration?" The week also serves as an opportunity to discuss and experience the topic of Europe at a local level.
