Europe Week 2016 in Chemnitz
Presentations on European funding opportunities in the historic tram and quiz "Who will be European champion?"
The Europe Week in Chemnitz kicks off this Sunday with the opening of an exhibition at the Odradek reading café. Artists from Syria and Iraq will be showing their works in "Odradek Perspectives from the Margins of Society". Readings and film screenings are also on the programme, for example on 3 May. Anyone interested can find out more about becoming a refugee sponsor or attend the reading "Bible vs. Koran: Christian reads Koran - Muslim reads Bible".
The Montessori School and the EU Office of the City of Chemnitz are jointly hosting the vernissage of the exhibition "Imagine it's war!" on 2 May at 2 pm in the town hall. It documents the German-Czech theatre project, in which young people from both countries developed a play and performed it in public on 5 March 2015.
The Schloßbergmuseum Chemnitz opens the exhibition "Saxony and Bohemia as reflected in art around 1500" during Europe Week. The "Europe Day Culture - All at One Table" organised by the Network for Cultural and Youth Work e. V. on 4 May at DAStietz brings together Chemnitz project sponsors from the fields of cultural work, youth work and the cultural and creative industries with European funding bodies and the future audience. This also includes a ride on a historic tram, where the Chemnitz Children's Association and the Tram Museum, among others, will present examples of good practice.
On the official Europe Day on 9 May, the Faculty of Philosophy and the European Studies Initiative of Chemnitz University of Technology will address the question "Europe at the end?" in the M-Building on Reichenhainer Straße. Kai Olaf Lang from the Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik in Berlin, Vít Beneš from the Institute of International Relations in Prague and Volkmar Zschocke, member of the Saxon state parliament for the Bündnis 90/Die Grünen parliamentary group, will take part in the lectures and panel discussion. Afterwards, the German author and cabaret artist Steffen Möller, who is very well known in Poland, will perform in the Reichenhainer Straße canteen on the topic of "Viva Polonia - why you still have to love Poland". On the same day, the Children's and Family Centre in the Chemnitz Multigenerational House will be looking for the Chemnitz European Champion under the heading "We are Europe!" with a station run and knowledge quiz.
