Europe meets Chemnitz industrial giants
Meeting of the EU project on sustainable urban development in Chemnitz
The URBACT III network "2nd Chance" for the revitalisation of particularly large, vacant buildings invites you to six working meetings with the project partners during the two-year term of the project. From 13 to 14 October 2016, 24 members from seven European countries will come to Chemnitz to visit the two-thirds unused factory complex of the former spinning mill in Altchemnitz. The aim is to jointly develop strategies and concepts and exchange experiences on how to deal with vacancies in very large and empty buildings.
To this end, participants from the project partner cities of Brussels, Caen, Dubrovnik, Genoa, Gijon, Lublin, Maribor and Naples can expect a comprehensive programme of lectures, tours and workshops on both days. The first day of the conference will take place directly at the spinning mill. After a detailed tour of the complex with the owner and the area manager, participants will exchange views on the respective local activities and project statuses and provide feedback for future renovation proposals. Representatives of the press will have the opportunity to conduct interviews between 11.30 am and 1 pm.
On the following day, the network meeting will take place in the "schönherr.fabrik". This facility serves as a successful practical example of the revitalisation and reuse of former vacant industrial buildings. After a thematic workshop, the festivals "Begehungen" and "Wolkenkuckucksheim" as well as "StadtWohnen Chemnitz" will be presented to the guests as further examples of good practice from Chemnitz in this context.
