On Thursday 26 February at 10 a.m., the Europe Direct Centre Chemnitz will be officially opened in the presence of Mayor Ralph Burghart and Andy Jahns, Head of the Europe and International Relations Department of the Saxon State Chancellery, in the foyer on the stage on the ground floor of the TIETZ, Moritzstraße 20.
Representatives of the media are invited to attend.
Europe Direct Manager Tina Winkel will present the tasks and activities of the Europe Direct Centre Chemnitz. Afterwards, there will be an opportunity to visit the office.
Europe Direct Centre Chemnitz
With the establishment of the Europe Direct Centre, the City of Chemnitz will create a central location for information, exchange and European educational work from 2026, which will build on the impulses of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 and continue them in the sense of "legacy" in the long term and structurally.
In the year of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025, discussions were held and new networks, spaces and formats were created. These are to be continued and expanded in the spirit of the European idea and European themes are to be anchored in the cityscape and in the consciousness of Chemnitz residents.
To this end, the intervention spaces that have been created are to be used as permanent places for European encounters. Furthermore, mobile formats for outreach EU communication are to be developed and cultural, social and technological transformations combined - with the aim of providing long-term European education and participation programmes.
EU topics are to be communicated in an everyday and dialogue-oriented manner. The focus here is primarily on children and young people, people in structurally weak neighbourhoods, employees undergoing structural change and multipliers. Various formats in the intervention areas, such as the Garage Campus, the Stadtwirtschaft, the Hartmannfabrik and other smaller areas, are already being planned.
