Euba dam is drained in a controlled manner

Another drain is being laid - bottom drain could not be opened by divers

The bottom outlet of the Euba dam could not be opened yesterday evening by the divers from the Pirna THW unit. The water level is therefore being lowered further by diverting the water. In addition to the three existing drains, another one will be installed today. The water level is regularly checked and documented.

The THW special unit tried to open the drainage gate with an oxygen lance in order to realise the drainage as planned. The THW was supported by the fire brigade and civil engineering department.

According to the current weather forecasts, it is to be expected that a water level corresponding to the maximum operating state will be reached on Monday by draining via the outlets. Once this water level has been reached, further measures can be discussed.

There is still no indication of an increased risk, but the current operating status is still unacceptable. Draining is necessary because the dam would not be able to cope with renewed heavy rainfall at the current water level.

The measures that have been initiated include informing the public and taking steps to regulate the discharge in order to lower the water level.
