EU school programme for fruit, vegetables and milk

Chemnitz facilities have been finalised

28 primary and special schools as well as nurseries and kindergartens in the city of Chemnitz have been selected to benefit from the EU school programme for fruit, vegetables and milk in the 2020/21 school year. They are published on the website www.schulobst-milch.sachsen.de.

Participants were selected in the order in which applications were received, depending on the funds available. All organisations that have applied and could not be considered will remain on a waiting list. If funds become available at a later date, these institutions may still be admitted.

Background: The aim of the EU school programme is to increase the consumption and acceptance of fruit, vegetables and milk among children. With a free extra portion of fruit, vegetables and milk, the programme aims to make healthy eating appealing to children. The facilities will supplement the programme with accompanying educational measures (e.g. farm visits and project days) that teach the children about agriculture and healthy eating.

The EU provides the member states with 250 million euros annually for the EU school programme.

The "Fruit and Vegetables" part of the programme is only available to primary and special schools. The "milk" part of the programme is also open to nurseries and kindergartens. Two portions of fresh fruit and vegetables or drinking milk can be distributed per week.
