Establishment of schools in the urban area

At its meeting today, the city council decided to establish the following school:

From the 2022/2023 school year, pupils will be taught at the Weststraße primary school, starting with Year 1. Registration for future first-year pupils is possible from 1 August to 15 September 2021. A single-field hall is being built for sports lessons.

Pupils will be taught at the Südlicher Sonnenberg primary school at Jakobstraße 20 from the 2023/2024 school year. Until then, the school site will be used as an alternative location by the "Planitzwiese" primary and secondary school, which is also being built and is growing, starting from the 2021/2022 school year. Registration for future first-year pupils will take place between 1 August and 15 September 2022. More detailed information, specific dates and location of registration will be announced in May 2021. A two-storey hall will be built for sports lessons.

A two-form entry primary school and a secondary school will be set up on Heinrich-Schütz-Straße. The Planitzwiese primary and secondary schools will move into the new building on Heinrich-Schütz-Straße from the 2023/2024 school year. Until then, the Planitzwiese primary school will teach pupils at the Jakobstraße site from the 2021/22 school year.

The Planitzwiese secondary school will be run as a branch of the Gablenz secondary school from the 2021/2022 school year until it becomes independent and will be housed at Jakobstraße 20 for construction reasons. A two-court sports hall will also be built on the new school grounds.

Charlottenstraße primary school will be established from the 2021/2022 school year. However, due to construction work, it will not move to the site at Charlottenstraße 23 until the 2023/2024 school year, before which the building at Comeniusstraße 1 (Jan Amos Comenius Primary School) will serve as an alternative location. A single-field sports hall will also be built on the Charlottenstraße school grounds.

The secondary school at Hartmannplatz will teach children in its new premises under its new name from the 2024/2025 school year. PE lessons will be held in the neighbouring Richard-Hartmann-Halle.

The Annenschule secondary school will move from Brauhausstraße 16 to Vettersstraße 34 at the start of the 2023/2024 school year. Since 2013, the Annenschule primary and secondary schools have been endeavouring to expand the capacity of both schools and thus significantly improve the space situation. A two-court sports hall is being built on the school grounds for sports lessons.

All of the new gymnasium buildings mentioned are also to be used to meet the needs of the sports clubs, as described in the City of Chemnitz's gymnasium and sports hall concept, which is also being presented to the City Council for approval at this meeting.
