Ideas and projects for active and sustainable environmental protection honoured / Winners of the 2018 spring clean honoured with the "Golden Broom"
Today, the 2018 Environmental Award for Children and Young People was presented at a festive event in Fire Station 1 of the Chemnitz Municipal Fire Brigade and the winners of the 2018 spring clean-up "For a clean Chemnitz" were honoured with the "Golden Broom" at the same time.
The Chemnitz Environmental Prize is awarded annually by the City of Chemnitz - with the support of partners eins energie in sachsen GmbH & Co KG, Südsachsen Wasser GmbH and the waste disposal and municipal cleaning company of the City of Chemnitz - to honour the best ideas and projects by children and young people for active and sustainable environmental protection and successful environmental education. Projects are honoured that require an intensive examination of environmental protection and active action and are designed to be sustainable.
The award winners are
Children of the Terra Nova Campus - the discovery school
The children of the Terra Nova Campus - the discovery school developed a very comprehensive project entitled "The honeybee in the city of Chemnitz". The subject of the research was the importance of the honey bee for humans, the influences on the life of bees, such as the weather, but also bee products and their many possible uses.
Class 3a pupils from Borna primary school
In their "insect hotel" project, the pupils of class 3a at Borna primary school focussed on a variety of insects and their importance for and interaction with the natural environment. Their model reflects the variety of ways in which insects can be protected and goes far beyond what is generally referred to as an insect hotel.
Children of the "Müll AG" in the after-school care centre of the Albert Einstein Primary School
At the after-school care centre of the Albert Einstein Primary School, the children of the "Müll AG" (rubbish club) have been dealing with the questions "What is rubbish?", "How is rubbish produced?", "How can we avoid rubbish in everyday life?", "How does rubbish affect our environment?" and "Why should we protect our environment and what can we personally do to help?". As a result, a variety of ideas were developed on how each individual can contribute to a cleaner environment.
The Solar-AG of the Georgius Agricola Grammar School
The members of the Georgius-Agricola-Gymnasium's Solar-AG have been working on the construction of a solar mobile for many years. In doing so, they have been tackling the various challenges that arise in detail in order to create an efficient mobile that uses only solar energy via two solar modules. Over the years, a solar-powered vehicle has been developed and a great deal of knowledge about drive concepts and alternative energy has been acquired.
All prize winners received certificates, the prize money and small gifts. There was also a guided tour of the fire station.
All participants and prize winners deserve recognition for their outstanding achievements in the interests of a clean environment for the future. Winners of the spring clean-up "For a clean Chemnitz" honoured with the "Golden Broom"
This year's winners of the Chemnitz spring clean-up "For a clean Chemnitz" were also honoured at the festive event. A new record number of participants was achieved in the festive year of the city's 875th anniversary. From 23 March to 21 April, more than 2,600 participants took part in almost 50 campaigns. Many great activities by day-care centres, schools, civic associations and individuals were then judged by a jury of experts from the ASR, the city administration and the CWE.
Mayor Miko Runkel as patron of the campaign, the operations manager of the waste disposal and city cleaning company of the city of Chemnitz (ASR) Dirk Behrendt and the ASR mascot, the hard-working ant EMSI, presented the winners with certificates and prize money.
1st prize: Pupils from Karl-Schmidt-Rottluff-Gymnasium
Pupils from Karl-Schmidt-Rottluff-Gymnasium won 1st prize and thus also the winners of the "Golden Broom" challenge cup. 125 participants cleaned the entire slope from Hohe Straße to the Hartmannhalle. In the end, 180 full rubbish bags were collected. The pupils often use the stairs on the slope as a route to the gymnasium on Fabrikstraße. They noticed the unclean slope. In addition to the "Golden Broom", they received prize money of 150 euros for their campaign.
2nd prize: Children from the Küchwaldstraße 4 after-school care centre
The 2nd prize went to the children of the Küchwaldstraße 4 after-school care centre. 180 after-school children, teachers and the head of the after-school care centre, Christel Rößler, cleaned up the large Küchwald meadow. They received prize money of 100 euros.
3rd prize: Children from the "Entdeckerland" BIK e.V. day care centre
The winners of the 3rd prize, 97 children from the daycare centre "Entdeckerland" BIK e.V., Pappelstraße 14, collected 40 full rubbish bags on Pappelstraße and the adjacent football pitch. They received prize money of 50 euros for their campaign.
