Environmental library helps save electricity
The energy-saving pack is now available to borrow free of charge from the Chemnitz Environmental Library. It is one of a total of 500 items that the Federal Environment Agency is making available to libraries throughout Germany.
In addition to an electricity meter, the pack contains detailed operating instructions and plenty of information on saving energy from the Federal Environment Agency. The meter can be used not only to record the power consumption values of PCs, printers, monitors, radios and DVD players, for example, but also to calculate the electricity costs associated with annual consumption in euros.
For example, the meter can be used to reliably display the annual operating costs of a refrigerator. A value that is not insignificant, even when it comes to the question of a new purchase.
However, many appliances that are switched off still consume electricity. These hidden power guzzlers cannot be detected without a measuring device. A well-equipped household may well spend a three-digit euro amount annually on such idle losses.
With the energy saving list, interested library users can now expose their domestic power guzzlers.
The Chemnitz Environmental Library is located at Henriettenstraße 5 and can be reached during these opening hours:

The Federal Environment Agency (UBA) is now making 500 energy-saving packs available to libraries - including the Chemnitz Environmental Library The energy-saving packs can be borrowed free of charge. They can be used, for example, to recognise and reduce power consumption caused by idling or stand-by mode. The campaign is being organised in cooperation with the No-Energy Foundation for Climate Protection and Resource Efficiency. "The most effective electricity price brake starts with saving electricity! In many households, simple measures can save electricity, in some cases to the tune of a three-digit euro amount per year," explains UBA President Jochen Flasbarth. "With the energy-saving package, libraries help users to determine their current electricity consumption and potential savings."
