Environmental centre receives WWF species protection case for environmental education
The Chemnitz Environmental Centre has now received a species protection case (photo) from the environmental protection organisation WWF Germany for its educational work: The cases contain bags and shoes made from crocodile and snake leather, skins and hides, inlaid amphibians and jewellery made from ivory or coral. The exhibits were confiscated by the customs authorities and made available to the WWF for educational work. To mark its 50th anniversary, the WWF is now making the suitcases available to educational institutions throughout Germany. In addition to species smuggling, the range also includes teaching materials on the wolf as an example of the conflict between humans and wild animals and on the healing power of nature.
Manfred Hastedt, Head of the Environmental Centre: "In order to preserve biodiversity in the world, we need to get children and young people excited about the value of nature and the diversity of the natural world. The conservation kit is ideal for this and will help us with this important task. We would like to thank the WWF for this pre-Christmas gift and also the sponsors who made this possible with their donations."
The conservation kit was presented by Bettina Münch-Epple, Head of Education at WWF Germany: "We are certain that the Chemnitz Environmental Centre will make an important contribution to environmental education in the region with the conservation kit and raise awareness of this important topic among future generations."
