Employers' day provides information on recruiting foreign skilled workers
The City of Chemnitz, Chemnitz Employment Agency, Chemnitz Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Chemnitz Chamber of Crafts, Chemnitz University of Technology, Chemnitz Business Promotion and Development Corporation (mBh) and Industrieverein 1828 jointly organised an information event today on the topic of "Attracting skilled workers from abroad?". The event was aimed at entrepreneurs who are having difficulties finding qualified staff to fill vacancies or who are worried about this in the future.
The event was opened by Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig and the Managing Director of the Chemnitz Employment Agency, Angelika Hugel, who presented previous experiences of entrepreneurs, information on the legal framework and options for recruitment and the recognition of qualifications.
"It is a hope and an opportunity for a modern industrial city like Chemnitz to attract highly qualified and well-trained foreign skilled workers. That is why this event is intended to inform and motivate companies to open up to foreign workers and actively approach them. The city provides assistance, for example, by speeding up and harmonising application procedures or developing linguistic and intercultural skills in the offices. Under the keyword "welcoming culture", people from abroad should experience Chemnitz as a cosmopolitan and tolerant city," says Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig.
The background to this is a study by the Chemnitz Economic Promotion and Development Corporation (CWE), according to which Chemnitz companies in industry and technical services will need around 5,200 additional workers by 2016. Recruiting foreign workers is becoming increasingly important in order to counteract the shortage of skilled labour.
