Emergency care for children is ensured
City of Chemnitz prepares for the lockdown from next week
The city of Chemnitz is making intensive preparations to provide emergency childcare for children whose parents work in so-called systemically relevant professions.
As in the spring, all centres will remain open from next week so that children can be cared for in their usual environment.
The list of systemically relevant professions has not yet been finalised by the state government, but the city assumes that the professions listed below are included. As things stand today, the state's regulation is to apply until 10 January. It is also not yet clear how the issue of parental contributions will be resolved.
A corresponding form for parents to prove their entitlement will be made available on www.chemnitz.de as soon as possible.

The following groups are entitled to emergency care if only one of the legal guardians is working and care cannot be provided by the other legal guardian:
Ensuring public safety and order
- police
- law enforcement
- Crisis team personnel
- Professional fire brigade
- Civil protection and aid organisations
- Essential personnel in institutions and authorities of the Free State of Saxony, the federal government, the armed forces, the Saxon municipalities and their associations as well as the Federal Employment Agency, provided that a person with custody is entrusted with tasks to combat the corona pandemic
Healthcare and nursing care
- Hospitals and medical faculties
- Emergency services
- Medical and dental practices
- Psychotherapy practices and psychosocial emergency care
- Pharmacies
- Laboratories
- Manufacture and distribution of medicines and medical products
- Inpatient facilities for care, rehabilitation and integration assistance
- Outpatient care services
- Economic, supply and cleaning staff in hospitals and medical faculties as well as inpatient facilities for care, rehabilitation and integration assistance
Education and upbringing (only staff absolutely necessary for operations)
- Schools and child daycare facilities, including curative daycare centres
- Inpatient, day-care and outpatient assistance for the disabled, children and young people
- Economic, supply and cleaning staff in the aforementioned educational and childcare facilities
The entitlement to additional emergency care is given if both custodians or the sole or current custodian in the case of single parents works in these occupational groups:
Ensuring public infrastructure and security of supply (only staff absolutely necessary for operations)
- Telecommunications, security-related IT infrastructure, postal services
- Energy supply including petrol stations and oil companies (network security)
- Water supply
- Waste disposal (sewage disposal, waste management)
- Public transport, regional rail transport, energy supply companies and associated infrastructure companies
- Inland waterway transport
- Radio, television, press including the production of printed press products
Food and everyday consumer goods
- Food industry and agriculture
- Food trade and wholesale
- Transport and logistics to meet daily needs
