Emergency box to save lives
Social welfare office project is now available for Chemnitz residents
The City of Chemnitz Social Welfare Office provides Chemnitz citizens with an emergency box free of charge. The emergency box should contain answers to questions that are important during a rescue operation. These include What pre-existing conditions does the patient have? Is the patient taking any important medication? Can an allergic reaction be ruled out? Who should be informed as an important contact person?
The box contains an information sheet with all vital information and offers emergency services the opportunity to keep all important information in a central location with the person in need of help. In order to keep the information easily accessible in an emergency, the box is placed in the fridge as a fixed location in every household. Appropriate stickers, which can be affixed to the inside of the front door and on the fridge, alert the emergency services to the presence of the emergency box and make it easier to find the life-saving information.
The box is particularly important if the person is no longer able to communicate. In an emergency, help can be provided quickly and without delay and the subsequent rescue chain can be activated. This means that all the information contained in the emergency box is recorded by the emergency rescue team and then passed on to the hospital staff. This enables relatives, the family doctor treating the patient and existing outpatient service providers to be informed. As part of discharge management, the medical staff and the hospital social services can thus organise all the help needed to enable patients to live independently at home.
Initially, elderly people and those in need of care will be the main beneficiaries of the emergency kits. The emergency kits will be gradually distributed to various distribution points with immediate effect. This will primarily involve social and healthcare service providers, but also community players and members of the DementiaNet_C(hemnitz) and NetzwerkPflege_C.
An emergency box can also be handed out free of charge to interested citizens by prior appointment via the staff of the City of Chemnitz's Senior Citizens' Social Service on 0371 488 5555.
This project is financed by tax revenue on the basis of the budget approved by the Saxon state parliament.
