Embankment wall on the Wittgensdorf stream to be renewed
At its meeting today, the town council decided to replace the bank wall on the Wittgensdorfer Bach in the area of Untere Hauptstraße 138 to 148 in the Wittgensdorf district.
The aim of the measure is to replace the desolate, washed out and no longer stable bank reinforcements (left and partially right bank retaining walls) of the Wittgensdorfer Bach in the area of Untere Hauptstraße above the residential building with the house no. 146 as a steep embankment in dry block set, the replacement construction of the existing culvert including the desolate side retaining walls in this area.
This will create a damage-free discharge capacity of HQ100 (a flood that statistically occurs every 100 years) for the contiguous closed development in the Wittgensdorf neighbourhood. The current discharge capacity is below HQ100. The replacement of the culvert will also eliminate the desolate structural condition of the abutment and cover.
In addition to the required discharge capacity, the overall aim is to ensure long-term stability and durability. The existing wall made of old quarry stone masonry and pioneer replacement is in serious danger of collapse due to existing damage and severe deformations.
Construction is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2024 and is due to be completed by the end of January 2025. The project will cost around 584,000 euros in total.
