Embankment wall on Fabrikstraße is being renovated
The renovation of the bank wall of the Kappelbach at Fabrikstraße begins on Wednesday. Construction is scheduled to end on 19 December 2014. The project includes the demolition of the approx. 40 metre long and 4.50 metre high part of the embankment wall in the area of the Kappelbach at the transition to the Chemnitz.
The new construction consists of a concrete retaining wall anchored with micropiles and faced with a natural stone shell. For reasons of monument protection, the geometry and appearance of the new building is based on the existing structure. The construction company is Swing Tiefbau GmbH from Großrückerswalde. The order volume is estimated at around 380,000 euros. The project is being subsidised by the Free State of Saxony.
The construction site is expected to cause obstructions to cycle traffic. A temporary cycle path will be available from the first week of July at the latest until the end of the construction work. This will lead over the energy bridge onto Fabrikstraße. Pedestrian traffic, including wheelchair users, will be routed via Theaterstraße. Wheelchair users must expect restrictions. The court steps will remain accessible to pedestrians, albeit with restrictions. Diversions will be signposted accordingly.
In addition, a tree will have to be felled for the project (maple, diameter 17 cm). An appraisal and authorisation has been obtained from the environmental agency. Furthermore, a chestnut tree located in the construction area must be felled. It is already damaged and the trunk is hollow. This already jeopardises the stability of the tree. Cutting the roots could pose a danger to those involved in the construction work.
