Eleven more schools to be connected with fibre optic cable
Construction work will continue until the end of the year
The first construction work to provide eleven more schools in the city of Chemnitz with broadband connections will begin in the next few days. This is the second expansion stage with the properties that could not be connected in 2019. The city of Chemnitz is investing €3.25 million, 90 per cent of which is being funded by the federal and state governments.
The following schools will now be connected to an upstream fibre optic network:
- SSA-Sächsische Sozialakademie Bildungswerk für soz. Berufe und Jugendhilfe e.V. Helmholtzstraße 30,
- Josephinenschule-Oberschule, Josphinenplatz 9,
- Valentina Tereschkowa Primary School, Haydnstraße 21,
- Georg-Götz-School for the hearing impaired, Richard-Wagner-Straße 76,
- BSZ für Technik III - Hartmannschule, Annaberger Straße 186,
- Altchemnitz learning support school, Schulstraße 2,
- Klinikum Chemnitz gGmbH, medical vocational school, Berganger 11,
- Siegmar primary school, Rosmarinstraße 12,
- Parzivalschule, Auerswalder Straße 120
- Baumgartenschule Grüna, August-Bebel-Straße 7 and
- Mittelbach primary school, Hofer Straße 35.
Originally, the "Gerd Conde" vocational school, Stollberger Straße 40, was also to be connected to the broadband network in the second expansion stage. The fibre optic connection has since been completed as part of the subsidised broadband expansion.
A total of 8.3 kilometres of civil engineering route will be laid, spread over individual construction sections in the city area. The civil engineering work for all surfaces will be carried out using open and closed construction methods. The roads in the various urban areas will be partially or fully closed for this purpose.
The work will last until December 2023. The schools on Helmholtzstraße, Josephinenstraße and Annaberger Straße will be the first to be affected. After the winter break in the first quarter of 2024, the connection to the school in Grüna will follow with a slight delay.
Krause & Co. Hoch-,Tief- und Anlagenbau GmbH has been commissioned to carry out the construction work.
