Election advertising statutes adopted

At its meeting yesterday, the Chemnitz City Council adopted the statutes of the City of Chemnitz on the procedural regulation of election advertising for political purposes on public streets, roads and squares during the election campaign period (election advertising statutes). A standardised and binding regulation on election advertising was drawn up due to the publicity and the extent of election posters throughout the city.

In previous years, an election agreement was used for this purpose, which was reissued on the occasion of the respective elections and signed and thus recognised by the parties, voter associations and individual candidates running in the city area.

According to the current statutes, the affixing and erection of posters is exempt from the authorisation requirement. Intended election advertising can be reported to the civil engineering office via a simplified procedure.

The election advertising regulations were coordinated within the City of Chemnitz with the Main Office, Public Order Office, Legal Office, Property Office, Green Space Office and the electoral authority. In addition, eins energie, as the owner of the light poles in the city area, was involved in the drafting of the statutes.

The regulation of election posters and the erection of large billboards on municipal land is handled by the City of Chemnitz's civil engineering department. The Public Order Office is responsible for setting up and operating information stands and organising election campaign events.

Election advertising on buildings or advertising structures is still permitted during the election campaign period and is not affected by these regulations.
