Einsiedel primary school: refurbishment completed after one and a half years
The renovation of the striking primary school in Einsiedel has now been completed: The listed school on the Kirchberg was built around 1903.
Around 1960, an extension was added to the listed school building and a few years later the two buildings were connected by a connecting wing.
Construction work has been carried out on all three parts over the past year and a half.
They cost around 1.48 million euros, including 579,584 euros in subsidies.
The Wilhelminian-style building with its natural stone elements and ornate façade houses classrooms, an assembly hall, a serving kitchen and a dining room. Companies have now aesthetically upgraded the entire façade with a colourful coat of paint, a new canopy and slats.
Due to the architectural constellation, the planners divided the project into three sections corresponding to the three parts of the building:
On the historic part, the façade had to be drained, reconstructed and some new plaster applied. Specialists also worked on stucco elements. As aspects of monument protection had to be taken into account here, carpenters used their skills to recreate and install wooden windows true to the original. An additional staircase also had to be painstakingly installed in the old school building as a second escape route. The pupils are already using the completely renovated dining hall in fresh colours and with new furniture, as they also stayed on site during the renovation of their school.
The south side of the building, which was built in the 1960s, had to be drained and the façade insulated and plastered. New plastic windows then replaced the old, dilapidated ones in the walls. And finally, an additional escape route was also created here in the form of an external staircase.
The main entrance in the so-called connecting wing between the two parts of the building has a special feature - a work of art by the Einsiedeln painter Michael Morgner. Its stained glass window, which depicts the mythological figure of Prometheus, has now also been renovated by experts.
There are currently 96 pupils in four classes at Einsiedel primary school.
