Effects of storm "Friederike" in forests
The Parks Department warns: Entering the forest is still dangerous! - Clean-up work is in full swing - consultation hours of the district forester: purchase of firewood licences possible - scheduled forest maintenance work until the end of February
Hurricane "Friederike" also caused considerable damage in the municipal forest of the city of Chemnitz. Many paths are impassable due to fallen or leaning trees. But even after the paths have been cleared, there is still a high risk of broken trees, i.e. half uprooted trees, broken crowns or branches. In general, there is a high risk of collapse.
The Parks Department strongly warns against entering the woods. All available resources are being channelled into clearing up the damage. The clean-up work will nevertheless take a long time and must not be hindered.
The forester's office hours are now in the new Technical Town Hall (entrance: Bahnhofstraße 25, House A, Room A35) on Mondays from 4 to 6 pm. The last consultation hours for this season are scheduled for 19 February 2018. However, the purchase of firewood licences is only possible to a very limited extent due to the storm damage. Home delivery is also possible for quantities of 10 cubic metres or more.
If the storm damage allows, the scheduled forest maintenance work in the Ebersdorf forest and in the Kohlung will take place this season until the end of February 2018.
Forest areas and forest paths are closed during the work! There is a danger to life! Walkers, joggers, cyclists, dog owners and all other visitors to the forest must bear in mind that forest areas and forest paths are temporarily closed to passers-by for safety reasons during the logging and timber processing (based on the Saxon Forest Act). Please pay attention to barriers and do not change them. For example: A 30 metre high tree has a danger radius of at least 30 metres.
Wooden poles must not be stepped on or climbed on! Trunks could roll and serious accidents could occur. Please instruct children in particular about this.
The mainly mechanically harvested raw wood is processed into various assortments and temporarily stored on forest roads accessible by lorry. This will cause considerable disruption to the forest roads. After removal of the temporarily stored raw timber assortments, the roads will be repaired. This is also dependent on the weather and is not expected to be completed before July 2018.
