City council decides on participation of schools and daycare centres in a federal programme
The city council has unanimously decided to introduce and implement an energy-saving programme entitled "Schools and daycare centres save energy". This enables facilities to participate in a federal funding programme.
By using energy sparingly, schools and daycare centres should help to reduce the municipality's energy costs in future. In recent years, the programme has ensured efficient use of energy and water through structural changes when renovating such facilities.
In addition, the facilities themselves are now to ensure cost savings through the conscious use of heating energy, electricity and water, without having to forego their usual comfort.The facilities can proceed according to the principle of "small cause big effect", for example by setting radiator valves to level 1 or 2 once the room temperature has been reached.to level 1 or 2, keeping outside doors closed after break times, switching off the lights when leaving the room or simply favouring shock ventilation instead of tilt ventilation.
Participation in the energy saving programme is voluntary for schools and daycare centres, only a resolution on active participation within the institution is required.
At the same time as endeavouring to save energy, the "Chemnitz schools save energy" project pursues an educational approach that encourages children and young people to use resources in an environmentally friendly way.
In the near future, other groups and users of administrative buildings, for example, should also follow this example.
The participants in the project are supported by the city's building management and, in addition to the awareness of having made a difference for the environment, can also receive energy-saving bonuses for their facilities.
