Eckstraße bridge to be removed
The Eckstraße bridge over the Chemnitz is being dismantled. The structure was labelled the worst bridge in Germany by the ADAC in 2007. It was last used by pedestrians and cyclists. The bridge is so badly damaged that it can no longer be repaired.
Local residents have already been informed about the measures on site.
The company Sippel & Sohn GmbH from Aue was commissioned with the demolition work. The costs amount to approx. 30,000 euros. The work will begin outside the fish protection period on
13 August 2018 and is expected to last until 28 August 2018. A replacement construction is not planned. Pedestrians and cyclists will have to take a small diversions after the demolition. They can then use the Müllerstraße or Lohrstraße bridges.
Following the bridge demolition, the embankments will be redesigned.
