Düsseldorf choir visits Chemnitz

Participation in the festive concert on the Day of German Unity

44 singers from the twin city of Düsseldorf are visiting Chemnitz from today until 4 October. The reason for their stay is to take part in the festive concert to mark the Day of German Unity on 3 October 2016 at 6 pm in the Opera House.

They will perform Ludwig van Beethoven's 9th Symphony, the last movement of which, Schiller's "Ode to Joy", was chosen as the anthem of Europe in 1972 and the anthem of the European Community in 1985.

Other participants include the soloists Guibee Yang, Tinna Penttinen, Jan Novotny and Magnus Piontek from the opera ensemble, the choir of the opera house, the Singakademie Chemnitz, the University Choir of Chemnitz University of Technology and the Robert Schumann Philharmonic Orchestra. The conductor of the concert is Felix Bender.

The guests from Düsseldorf will also attend the opera La Cenerentola (Cinderella) by Gioachino Rossini on 2 October and receive a guided tour of the opera house. With this invitation, Chemnitz Theatre is aiming to expand its artistic contacts in the future.
