Drinking fountains bubble again from Friday

Fountain season begins on 23 March with the castle pond fountain

From Friday 20 March, just in time for International Water Day on 22 March, the six municipal drinking fountains will be bubbling again. The company inetz GmbH will put the drinking fountains into operation and maintain them throughout the season. In addition to the three centrally located drinking fountains at the town hall, on the Wall and in Rathausstraße, one drinking fountain each is available at the pavilion in Küchwaldpark, in Konkordiapark and on Brühl-Boulevard.

On Monday, 23 March, the fountain season for the 22 municipal fountains begins with the opening of the castle pond fountain. As in previous years, the early start is intended to actively influence the ecology of the castle pond through a higher oxygen input as a result of the increased water movement.

The 19 other municipal ornamental and artificial fountains will be put into operation by 26 May in the following order:

  • Market fountain (from 30 March)
  • Klapperbrunnen (from 30 March)
  • Rosenhof fountain (in front of the tower block)
  • Ginkgo fountain basin (Rosenhof)
  • Jakobikirchplatz water feature (from 2 April)
  • Bear Fountain (from 2 April)
  • Am Roten Turm fountain (Stadthallenpark, from 17 April)
  • Zipper fountain (Schloßteichinsel, from 21 April)
  • Park of Youth (Schloßbergpark)
  • Illuminated fountain (castle pond, from 7 May)
  • Wedding fountain at the IHK building (Straße der Nationen)
  • Völkerfreundschaft fountain (Straße der Nationen)
  • Umbrella fountain (Straße der Nationen)
  • Children's fountain (Straße der Nationen)
  • Fountain complex Brühl-Boulevard
  • Azzano fountain (Am Rathaus street)
  • "Hair washing" fountain in Albertipark (Sonnenberg)
  • Sachsenhalle water basin (Dr.-Salvador-Allende-Straße)
  • Röhrsdorf ball fountain

Please note: The possibility of delays due to technical reasons cannot be ruled out. The specific dates are limited to the larger fountain systems.

205,000 has been budgeted for the maintenance of the fountains for the 2026 financial year.

In addition to the maintenance and management of the following fountains, there are also sponsorship contributions in kind and in cash from companies and associations:

  • Sprudelstein Grüna - sponsor Heimatverein Grüna
  • Saxonia fountain - sponsored by the Kellnberger company

17 of the above-mentioned fountains are maintained by the RAC company on the basis of a service contract. The Marktbrunnen and Klapperbrunnen fountains are maintained by Brunnenmeisterei M.& S. Schreier GmbH from Thuringia.

The fountain in Grüna is maintained by the local heritage association, and the Röhrsdorf ball fountain is also looked after by the village.

Unfortunately, it will not be possible to operate six fountains in 2026. These are the fountain at Falkeplatz, the fountain basins at Seeberplatz, the large fountain at the former Kulturpalast Rabenstein and the "Rosenbrunnen" at the Pelzmühle as well as two fountain basins on Brückenstraße. The Dresdener Straße/Hainstraße fountain was demolished in 2025 after several years of disuse and the area was planted.
