Today, Dr Eberhard Langer signed the Golden Book of the City of Chemnitz. The 85-year-old is being honoured for his outstanding voluntary services to football in Chemnitz.

Born in Chemnitz, he was active as a footballer for several clubs. He also organised friendly matches in Karl-Marx-Stadt during his studies in Leipzig. When FC Karl-Marx-Stadt was founded, he played in the old men's team and began his voluntary work for football in Chemnitz.

In the mid-1990s, he took over the chairmanship of the newly founded Friends' Association of the Sports High School. From 2000, he was chairman of the Förderverein für Jugend, Soziales und Sport e.V. This association is involved in numerous sporting and social projects for hundreds of children and young people from Chemnitz and the surrounding area. He held up to 16 honorary posts over many years, not only in football. He received the Chemmy in 2010 for his life's work.
