"Don't lose heart!"
Chemnitz students read from Haftbriefwechsel - on 28 November, 7 pm
The Chemnitz Adult Education Centre, together with the "Klick" initiative, invites you to a reading with pupils from the Karl-Schmidt-Rottluff-Gymnasium in the TIETZ event hall on Wednesday, 28 November at 7 pm. Admission is free.
Selected passages from the correspondence between the Eastern European historian Georg Sacke, who was imprisoned in Sachsenburg concentration camp for over seven months from 1934, and his wife Rosemarie will be read.
In sometimes very intimate lines, the letters tell how the idea of the concentration camp, but also the wishes and hopes, changed over the period of imprisonment. In this way, they give us new access to the history of the
Sachsenburg concentration camp and those imprisoned there - beyond elusive figures and one-dimensional perpetrator documents.
The reading marks the end of an online letter project. In this project, the correspondence will be published at http://briefe.gedenkstaette-sachsenburg.de/ until November 2018, exactly 83 years later to the day.
This event is a cooperation between the "Klick" initiative, the Lagerarbeitsgemeinschaft KZ Sachsenburg e. V. and the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre.
