District round table and property industry informed about refugee accommodation
Information event planned for citizens and residents
Yesterday, the city of Chemnitz once again informed various players in the housing industry, including the large cooperatives and representatives of the private property sector, about the accommodation of refugees and asylum seekers in the city. This was a continuation of the dialogue initiated at the table of Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig. It also fulfils the commitment to inform local stakeholders and citizens at an early stage and to enter into dialogue in order to take citizens' concerns seriously and ensure good cooperation.
Due to the increasing number of asylum seekers and refugees, the City of Chemnitz will continue to fulfil its humanitarian obligation and provide additional accommodation. As far as possible, this will be done in Chemnitz according to the concept of decentralised accommodation, in which refugee families can live largely independently. The City of Chemnitz is also convinced that this form of accommodation best facilitates social integration.
The city rents accommodation from various landlords. GGG, which has already provided various flats in the city area, will provide a further eleven flats in the city's Lützowstraße 32 property to accommodate refugee families. The flats have been refurbished in recent weeks and have now been furnished by the social welfare office.
Dialogue on site
Not only those involved in the property industry were informed about the project yesterday, but also the Kappel, Helbersdorf district round table and the Chemnitz-Süd citizens' network, which brings together associations and institutions such as the neighbourhood manager, Solaris e.V., the Volkssolidarität meeting centre, the Democratic Women's Association and the parish.
At the event in the IKARUS-Treff, social services manager Cornelia Utech also announced a residents' meeting. Residents are then invited to the Solaris Tower Chemnitz at Neefestraße 88 on Thursday, 5 February at 5 pm. Together with various stakeholders from the neighbourhood, associations and landlords, the City of Chemnitz will provide information on the topic, explain the project and talk to residents.
Residents' meeting on the topic
In addition to the on-site dialogue, Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig will hold a residents' meeting to provide information on the accommodation and care of refugees and asylum seekers. The residents of Chemnitz are invited to the Jakobikirche on Monday, 2 February at 6 pm. The event will provide information on the topic of refugees and asylum. The city's accommodation and care concept, which is to be subsequently adopted by the city council, will be presented.
"We want to engage in dialogue with the public on this topic, provide transparent information and answer questions," says the Lord Mayor. "Acceptance comes from trust and credibility. That's why we want to listen to suggestions, ideas and comments, but also talk about possible fears and questions. It is important to me to create a high level of transparency. We are also learning here."
In addition to the city, representatives of the state directorate, which is responsible for the operation of the initial reception centre, the police and other institutions will also be present as discussion partners.
