Discussion on water-sensitive urban development

Schwammstadt Forum on 30 October, from 2.30 pm, Carlowitz Congress Centre

On Friday 30 October, from 2.30 pm to 4.45 pm, the City of Chemnitz’s Environmental Centre, in collaboration with C³ Veranstaltungszentren GmbH, invites interested parties to the ‘Schwammstadt’ Forum at the Carlowitz Congress Centre, Theaterstraße 3. Under the heading ‘Knowledge – Inspiration – Exchange’, participants will explore questions such as: Why do we need a water-sensitive city? What does such a city look like? And what is being done to achieve this in Chemnitz?

The event is free of charge but limited to 50 people. Representatives from the media are also invited.

Sponge cities are cities that adopt the concept of no longer simply draining rainwater away as quickly as possible, but instead storing it temporarily, making it usable and striving for a water cycle that is as close to nature as possible. In this kick-off forum, experts will first explain why this is necessary at all and what such a ‘sponge city’ looks like, from the conceptual stage right through to the implementation of measures. Various local stakeholders from the fields of research, public administration and business will demonstrate how they are contributing to water-sensitive urban development.

Following the ‘Sponge City’ forum, the Hans-Carl-von-Carlowitz Sustainability Awards ceremony will take place. Further information can be found via the link to the event.
