On Saturday and Sunday, 25 and 26 October, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., interested parties are invited to the fruit variety show with variety identification at the Museum für Naturkunde Chemnitz in the TIETZ, Moritzstraße 20. The show, entitled #Sachsens_ObstKULTUR_entdecken, is being held for the fourth time. For the first time, the award-winning Saxon fruit varieties of the past ten years will also be presented as precious wax models.
On both days, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., the identification of varieties will be offered. Experienced Chemnitz pomologists Manfred Schrambke and Kai Gehringswald have been engaged for this purpose. To identify an apple variety on the basis of the fruit, three to five typical, well-coloured and undamaged fruits should be available. The stem, core and seed must be intact.
An exhibition of large-format photographs of apples that have been around for a while creates a special setting for the variety show. Aesthetically appealing, the images show the colonisation of apples by various fungi and provide an insight into the diversity of organisms involved in the recycling of organic materials. The photo exhibition is on loan from Dr Christoph Starke from Freiberg.
On Sunday afternoon, workshops for children and adults will offer the opportunity for creative and knowledge-based exploration of the apple theme. The extensive programme can be found under the link to the event.
The Museum für Naturkunde would like to point out that participation in the workshop "Slip into the role of a pomologist for once - child-friendly documentation of fruit varieties" on Sunday, 26 October, from 2 to 3 pm, is only possible with registration under workshop registration.
The event is being organised by the Pomologen-Verein e. V. Landesgruppe Sachsen and is taking place as a supporting programme to the International Pomologists' Meeting Chemnitz 2025.
