"Dictators as Europe's gatekeepers. How the EU is shifting its borders to Africa"

On Wednesday, 25 April at 7 p.m., the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre, in cooperation with the Heinrich Böll Foundation's "weiterdenken" educational institution, invites you to the presentation of the book "Dictators as Europe's gatekeepers. How the EU is shifting its borders to Africa".
The reading will take place in the TIETZ event hall. Admission is free.
Migration control has become an issue of the utmost domestic political importance in the EU. It is therefore expanding its relations with governments on the African continent at full speed. The aim is to prevent their citizens from travelling to Europe. The EU is offering billions in military and economic aid in return. It cooperates with regimes that commit serious human rights violations and trains their police and armies. Freedom of movement in Africa is being restricted, development aid is being redirected and made conditional: those who stop migrants receive money in return.
Simone Schlindwein and Christian Jakob have been researching this topic for years. Their book, published in autumn 2017, is the first comprehensive account of Europe's new Africa policy.
