"Developments": Prize-winning works in the Klaffenbach moated castle
Travelling exhibition of the Saxon-Bavarian network of cities stops in Chemnitz from 1 to 23 March - Invitation to the opening on 1 March, 3 p.m.
After the exhibition stops in Hof, Plauen and Bayreuth, the touring exhibition "Developments" will be presented in Chemnitz from 1 to 23 March in the Klaffenbach moated castle. It presents current works by twelve young visual artists who have won prizes in recent years in the JugendKunstBiennale and JugendKunstTriennale competitions, the most important joint cultural project of the Saxon-Bavarian network of cities.
Chemnitz is represented in the exhibition by Peggy Albrecht (Recognition Award Winner 1998) and Steve Viezens (Recognition Award Winner 2000). The vernissage of the exhibition "Developments" will take place on Saturday, 1 March at 3 pm in the moated castle of Klaffenbach. Citizens and representatives of the media are cordially invited to attend. The guests will be welcomed by Dr Ralf Schulze, Managing Director of C 3 Chemnitzer Veranstaltungszentren GmbH, and Katrin Voigt, Acting Head of the Cultural Office of the City of Chemnitz and representative of the Culture Working Group of the Saxon-Bavarian City Network. Thomas Bauer-Friedrich, designated Director of the Moritzburg Foundation Halle (Saale), Art Museum of the State of Saxony-Anhalt, will introduce the exhibition.

In keeping with the title of the exhibition, the prize-winning works presented will visualise the artistic developments of the young artists involved since their successful participation in the JugendKunstBiennale and now JugendKunstTreinnale. At the same time, the exhibition is also intended to publicise the fact that this special art competition for young people can also be an important step for some on the path to professional work as a visual artist. It is therefore no coincidence that the starting signal for the next Youth Art Triennial 2015 in Bayreuth will be given in March 2014, i.e. during the exhibition period of "Developments". (After Chemnitz, the "Developments" exhibition will be shown at the Zwickauer Galerie am Domhof from 6 April to 25 May). The Chemnitz exhibition venue in the Klaffenbach moated castle was also not chosen by the organisers by chance: The second JugendKunstBiennale took place here in 2000. One of the prizewinners at the time was Sebastian David, who will provide the musical accompaniment for the exhibition opening on 1 March 2014.
The city network members Chemnitz, Zwickau, Plauen, Hof and Bayreuth have been working together successfully across the borders of Bavaria and Saxony for over 15 years in the areas of transport, tourism and culture. This was reason enough for the cultural administrations of the cities to show with the exhibition "Developments" that the long-standing partnership and joint initiative have been fruitful and that the JugendKunstTriennale (formerly JugendKunstBiennale) has promoted encounters and artistic exchange between young people from the region of the Saxon-Bavarian network of cities.
