Development of the Leipziger Strasse industrial park completed

The construction work to develop the Leipziger Straße industrial park in the Röhrsdorf district has been completed on schedule. Mayor Barbara Ludwig, the acting mayor for construction Bernd Gregorzyk and the head of Röhrsdorf Hans-Joachim Siegel opened the extended access road to traffic today.
The largest municipal industrial estate in the city of Chemnitz has thus been created.
With around 470,000 square metres, attractive industrial and commercial areas have been developed in terms of infrastructure and the conditions for further investment in Chemnitz have been created. The industrial park was developed and opened up with the aim of providing commercial space for investments of more than 20,000 square metres. Sizes of up to 100,000 square metres are possible for major investments. The area is primarily intended for the establishment of production companies. Of the approximately 470,000 square metres of building space, over 126,000 square metres are already occupied at the time of opening. The city is already in talks with other investors.
The prerequisite for the establishment of companies was the infrastructural development of the area through the extension of Röhrsdorfer Allee. The first construction phase, which was completed last year, made it possible to realise the new Siemens AG building at this location and to begin the construction of the new Robert Müller GmbH building.
The commissioning of the complete access road will further improve the logistical connection to the supra-regional road network. A total of 1.5 kilometres of access road was constructed as an extension of Röhrsdorfer Allee to Obere Hauptstraße in Wittgensdorf.
This means that the commercial areas between the Chemnitz Centre and Wittgensdorf are now fully accessible in terms of traffic and media technology.
The entire section of the road was extended to a width of
17 metres wide with parking spaces, pavements and deep beds for drainage. The access road is equipped with all media such as sewerage systems for wastewater and rainwater, electricity, gas, drinking water, extinguishing water, lighting and communication systems.
The construction of three bus stops provides a connection to the city and regional transport network. In addition, a footpath and cycle path connection to Damaschkestraße in the Wittgensdorf quarry settlement was created.
The construction work was coordinated and carried out jointly by the Chemnitz Civil Engineering Office, eins energie in sachsen GmbH & Co KG, Entsorgungsbetrieb Chemnitz and Mitteldeutsche Netzgesellschaft Strom mbH.
Construction of the access road began in October 2013 and was realised in two sections. The timing of the development work was coordinated with the construction of the new Siemens plant. To ensure the commissioning of the Siemens plant, the first section from the existing Röhrsdorfer Allee to Damaschkestraße was completed on schedule by 30 June 2014.
The second section up to Obere Hauptstraße followed. This section was also completed on time thanks to the excellent cooperation between the clients and contractors. As planned, the greening and tree planting in the first section will take place this autumn.
The construction costs of the project totalled around 3.6 million euros. This means that the planned budget was adhered to. The construction project was supported by the Free State of Saxony with 70 per cent funding from the joint task "Improvement of the regional economic structure".
A consortium consisting of EBG Bau GmbH, 09427 Ehrenfriedersdorf, and Krause & Co Hoch-, Tief- und Anlagenbau GmbH, 09221 Klaffenbach, was commissioned with the construction work.
