Designs for parkour facility in Konkordiapark are presented
Another new parkour facility for young people is expected to be built in Chemnitz's Konkordiapark in spring 2015: In connection with the Year of Science 2011, the neighbourhood network AG Kultur und Soziales won a prize for the innovative ideas submitted for the design of an open space. The prize money of around 18,000 euros was to be used to realise the design of an obstacle course on the Konkordiapark site. Now the realisation of the project is getting closer: thanks to funding from the "Socially Integrative City" programme, the city of Chemnitz can provide the missing funds. The area earmarked for the project is the stump of Konkordiastrasse opposite the Ermafa Passage. A total of around 60,000 euros will be invested in the project, which is being realised under the leadership of the city's green space department, of which 18,000 euros is the aforementioned prize money and the rest is funding.
Neighbourhood manager Annett Illert: "The young people from the Chemnitz parkour scene, who were involved from the outset as a source of ideas and future user group, are very happy about the news!"
The first results of the planning for the new parkour facility will now be presented to the public by the Parks Department. The event will take place on Thursday, 27 November at 4 p.m. in the community centre at Leipziger Straße 39, where the Parks Department will be inviting representatives of the "Stadteingang" neighbourhood management, future users of the parkour facility involved in the project and members of the district network to discuss the designs.
