Demolition of the old Zschopauer Straße bridge - landwards
Extensive work will be carried out "around the clock" this coming weekend
With the first major total closure of the Dresden/Werdau railway line and the Chemnitz/Aue line from Friday, 25 October, from 10 p.m. to Monday, 28 October, 4 a.m., the bridge on the landward carriageway of the road bridge will be demolished.
As all three tracks under the bridge structure have to be closed for the bridge demolition, only the specified execution period is available for the demolition work. The date has been anchored in DB AG's construction operations planning for three years.
Due to the considerable scope of the work to be carried out within the short closure period, the work will be carried out in multiple shifts, including at weekends and at night.
The superstructure of the bridge, which has been freed from the superstructures and cut into individual segments, will be excavated using two mobile cranes. A 200-tonne and a 300-tonne crane will be used at the abutments. Individual elements weighing between 36 and 65 tonnes will be moved. Preparatory work for the demolition has been underway for around three weeks.
The responsible authorities - in particular the Federal Railway Authority, the Federal Police and the Public Order Office of the City of Chemnitz - have been informed of the scope and duration of the work.
Access to neighbouring properties will be ensured in consultation with the owners.
The construction of the new bridge is part of the DB project "Chemnitz railway arch". The Deutsche Bahn AG press office is available to answer any questions about this overall project.
Construction work on the new bridge began on 4 March 2019 with the canal construction as a preliminary work. The official start of construction for the bridge construction of the city of Chemnitz was on 5 August 2019. Both construction measures are currently running in parallel with a full closure of Zschopauer Straße.
