Demolition of the building at Limbacher Strasse 37

Owner of the house in danger of collapse has notified the city of Chemnitz of the start of demolition work

The dilapidated building at 37 Limbacher Straße in Chemnitz, which is in danger of collapsing, is now being demolished. The owner of the building, who comes from Gießen, has notified the City of Chemnitz/Building Licence Office of the immediate start of the demolition work.

The demolition work will be carried out by a specialist company commissioned by the owner. According to the owner's statement to the city, the work is to be carried out quickly. When the demolition work will be completed will depend not least on the weather. The owner's aim is to complete the demolition work before Christmas.

The building at Limbacher Straße 37 has been under observation by the building permit office of the city of Chemnitz since 2002. On 10 April 2013, the city ordered the building, which was no longer stable and in danger of collapsing, to be cordoned off and secured as part of the substitute measures (PM 156 from 08.04.2013 - www.chemnitz.de). The necessary measures realised by the city cost around 6,300 euros per month, which were invoiced to the owner.

This had become necessary in order to ensure safety in public traffic areas. The owner of the building had already been requested by the City of Chemnitz in 2012/2013 to remove the hazards, but had failed to fulfil this obligation. As a result of the necessary cordoning off of public traffic areas since April 2013, road users on site have had to put up with extensive diversions in the meantime.

As soon as the demolition work has been completed, the currently restricted traffic area will be reopened - information will be provided in good time.
