Delegation from Mulhouse visits the city of Chemnitz

Reception on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the town twinning between Chemnitz and Mulhouse

A delegation from the French twin city of Mulhouse will be visiting Chemnitz from 11 to 13 October. The occasion is the 40th anniversary of the town twinning.

The delegation, headed by the Mayor of Mulhouse, Michèle Lutz, will be welcomed by Mayor Sven Schulze at the town hall on Monday afternoon. The programme includes a tour of the city as well as visits to the industrial museum and the art collections. A new tram will be named after the twin city at the CVAG tram depot and the "France eMotion" exhibition will be officially opened in the Roter Turm gallery. For this exhibition, four international photographers have each travelled to a part of the country and photographed 35 cultural sites, which are brought to life using an app. At the end of her stay, Michèle Lutz will give a short speech to the city council on Wednesday and sign the Golden Book of the City of Chemnitz.

Mulhouse is the capital of southern Alsace and is located in the border triangle of France, Germany and Switzerland. The first friendly contacts between Karl-Marx-Stadt and Mulhouse date back to the early 1960s. A friendship agreement "Charte d'amitié" was signed in 1981. In 1990, the mayors of both cities sealed the twinning agreement with a contract.

  • 12 October, 12 noon: Train naming ceremony at the CVAG tram depot in Adelsberg
  • 12 October, 5 p.m.: Opening of the "France eMotion" exhibition in the Roter Turm gallery (market side entrance)
  • 13 October, 3 p.m.: Speech by Lord Mayor Michèle Lutz to the City Council with entry in the Golden Book of the City of Chemnitz
