"Deine Anne" to be shown in Chemnitz in autumn 2024
Anne Frank Centre exhibition takes place in the rooms of the youth church
From 23 October to 15 November 2024, Chemnitz will host the travelling exhibition "Deine Anne. A girl writes history.". The corresponding contract was signed today. The Chemnitz Protestant Church is making the rooms of the St. Johannis Youth Church on Johannisplatz available for the exhibition.
The exhibition "Deine Anne. A Girl Writes History" focuses on the life story of Anne Frank and encourages people to come to terms with anti-Semitism, racism and discrimination and the importance of freedom, equal rights and democracy. At the heart of the exhibition project is the educational approach of peer education, i.e. young people accompanying young people. This encourages young visitors to actively engage with historical and contemporary issues.
The exhibition is the largest on offer at the Anne Frank Centre and is divided into a historical section and a contemporary section. It is presented on large modules with pictures, texts and short films.
Dealing with the fate of Chemnitz children who were victims of the Holocaust is an integral part of the culture of remembrance in Chemnitz. Numerous Stolpersteine commemorate fates that are biographically similar to that of Anne Frank: Children who were brutally torn from the lives of friends and family and murdered by National Socialists and fellow travellers.
The project sets an example for democracy, freedom and equality. The exhibition is a milestone in the dialogue with young people about this past and its connection to the present. The State Office for Schools and Education has already recruited 17 peers to accompany the exhibition.
This project is co-financed by budget funds from the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMFSFJ) as part of the federal "Live Democracy!" programme as well as from tax funds on the basis of the budget adopted by the Saxon state parliament and is supported by the Local Action Plan of the City of Chemnitz.
