Debate on climate change and climate policy
Adult education centre: Online discussion on 2 December, 7.30 pm
On Thursday, 2 December, from 7.30 to 9 p.m., the adult education centre is hosting an online discussion on the consequences of climate change and effective political means of combating it. Participation is free of charge. Registration is possible until 1 December at www.vhs-chemnitz.de or by telephone on 0371 4884343. An access link will be sent out after registration.
An expert lecture will take centre stage. Prof Ottmar Edenhofer believes that one of the main causes of climate change is human activity. There is still time to act, but the window of opportunity available to us is closing. Some voices are calling for action: Only a global agreement supported by the entire international community can stop global warming. But what political measures can be taken worldwide? Are instruments such asCO2 pricing or emissions trading effective and fair options?
Prof Ottmar Edenhofer will be discussing all these questions with his audience this evening. He is Director and Chief Economist at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) and is one of the most cited scientists in the world. As an expert in environmental economics, he advises the OECD and the United Nations, among others.
The event is part of the series "vhs.wissen live - the digital science programme" as a cooperation between the adult education centres in Chemnitz, Esslingen district and SüdOst in Munich district.
