Dealing with conspiracy myths, half-truths and disinformation

On Wednesday, 5 May, from 6 to 7.30 pm, the Austrian author and blogger Ingrid Brodnig will speak at an online event about her recommendations for dealing appropriately with disinformation and false reports. Participation is free of charge. Interested parties can register by 5 May, 12 noon, at www.vhs-chemnitz.de and will receive an access link by email.
Ingrid Brodnig, known for her numerous publications on the topic of online hate, has long been active in defending the internet as a medium of education. On this evening, she will also show that there are ways for all users of the internet and social media to debunk false claims and make real facts understandable. This is also the case in her book "Einspruch! Countering conspiracy myths and fake news - in the family, among friends and online".
The coronavirus pandemic in particular has given rise to new half-truths, rumours, fake and distorted information, conspiracy narratives and misinformation on an almost daily basis. They take hold, are passed on and spread at breakneck speed - giving the impression that they reflect reality. How are we supposed to know what is really true and trustworthy?
Austrian journalist Ingrid Brodnig was editor of the news magazine Profil from 2015 to 2017, where she was responsible for reporting on digital topics. Prior to this, she was head of the media department at the Viennese weekly newspaper "Falter" and author of the weekly IT column "Digitalia". Ingrid Brodnig has received numerous awards and prizes for her journalistic work and was named Austria's Digital Champion in the EU in 2017.
