Daycare centre strike on Tuesday and Wednesday: emergency supplies secured - parents fully informed
As announced, the service trade union Verdi has called for further strikes by nursery school teachers this week. The two strike days in Chemnitz will be tomorrow, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Parents have been comprehensively informed about possible emergency childcare arrangements.
On Tuesday, 25 municipal childcare centres will be on strike. Three of these have closed completely. The city has set up emergency childcare for children who cannot stay at home. This will take place in the facilities that are not completely on strike. A total of 2,142 children are being looked after in emergency groups. A total of 222 nursery teachers are taking part in the strike.
On Wednesday, 29 municipal day-care centres will be on strike. Three of these will be completely closed. In the other centres, emergency care will be provided on site as on Tuesday. A total of 1,405 children will be cared for in the emergency groups. A total of 256 nursery teachers are taking part in the strike.
The three closed centres have been closed by the city, as the children to be cared for are being taken over by other centres.
Parents were comprehensively informed about the strike last week and asked about any possible need for emergency childcare. Additional talks were held with these parents.
In the so-called emergency groups, the children of parents who are both in employment or working single parents are looked after. Children of parents with one parent at home are generally not looked after during the strike.
