Day trip to Theresienstadt
Adult education centre: Few places still available - registration possible until 23 March
On Saturday, 25 March, from 8 am to 7 pm, the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre, together with ASA-FF e. V. and Weiterdenken - Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung Sachsen e. V., invites you to a day trip to the Terezín Memorial.
On this day, there will be an opportunity to learn about the history of the Theresienstadt ghetto and today's Terezín and to commemorate the victims and deportees.
Participation costs 27.40 euros per person. There are still places available. Registration is possible until 23 March via this link or by calling 0371 488 4343. The meeting point is at the bus stop Georgstraße/Omnibusbahnhof.
Theresienstadt (today Terezín/Czech Republic) was built between 1780 and 1790 as a border fortification against Prussia. From 1941 to 1945, the small garrison town in northern Bohemia served the Nazis as a stopover for transports to Auschwitz. Around 150,000 people were deported there because they belonged to the "Jewish race". The Nazis called this "the Final Solution" and used Theresienstadt in their propaganda machinery: the facades of the town were renovated like a "Potemkin village". Shops, baths and cafés were set up and a film was made about the "Jewish settlement area". Even the International Red Cross was fooled by this farce.
Many Chemnitz residents were also deported to Theresienstadt by the Nazis.
