On Thursday, 11 September, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., interested parties are invited to a day of action on Neumarkt Chemnitz to mark the nationwide Day of the Homeless. The aim is to raise awareness of the situation of homeless people in Chemnitz.
Under the title "Homeless - (no) perspective", the City of Chemnitz Social Welfare Office, independent welfare organisations and other stakeholders from the field of emergency housing assistance will draw attention to the causes of homelessness and how those affected deal with this phase of their lives in order to raise awareness of life situations that often remain hidden in our society.
Chemnitz is the European Capital of Culture this year. In keeping with this, a photo exhibition will be shown that provides an insight into the different living environments of homeless people and makes everyday challenges visible. Improvised living rooms will be installed for the resulting encounters, in which the images can be discussed and categorised. The various actors involved in emergency housing assistance will be available to answer questions on the topic and demonstrate approaches to possible solution strategies.
Interested parties can talk to the employees of the organisations involved and find out about the advice and support services on offer. The Solidarische Küche für alle (SoKü) will be serving food on the market square. A DJ team from the AJZ will provide background music.

Open day at various homelessness support centres
From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the "Neustart" counselling centre of the Caritas Association for Chemnitz and the surrounding area also invites you to an open day with various hands-on activities and a shared meal.

From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the housing project I of Selbsthilfe 91 e. V. also invites you to exchange ideas, eat together and take a tour of the facility for homeless people.
